The last seven days...

Very last day of University

Birthday Beach BBQ

This week I have finished University and turned twenty two so as you can tell it has been pretty hectic and given me lots to think about. I don't want to keep boring you with these two things so here are the last pictures from them I will post. I'll do a proper outfit post tomorrow and get back to the regular flow of things; a thought which passes through much further than the realms of The Robyn Diaries.

twenty two

Tomorrow is a big day for me, I turn 22! It feels a little bit odd as I am soon to be a 'twenty something' which to me just doesn't sound right as I still feel, and usually act, like a complete child. Usually I find birthdays are a really good time to reflect, especially as mine lands almost exactly half way through the year.

I have made some more incredible friends and kept hold of the ones who really matter to me also. I've had my heart broken, healed and excited. I have quit one job, been fired from another and been hired all over again. I've been to Benicassim, Prague and New York. This year I have also completed my last year of University and had some very exciting opportunities land in lap. All in the space of a year.

It seems crazy how much can happen, but I am chomping at the bit to go through it all over again in this new year of my life, especially when so much is fresh and unknown; I can't wait to see what is ahead.

To celebrate my last few days of being 21 I went out in Islington on Friday, had people over last night and went for Italian and to see Pirates of the Caribbean this evening. Tomorrow I will be going to West Wittering beach with my family for a little barbecue, a paddle and hopefully to catch a few rays. I will do a proper post on everything soon!

Floral Fancy

A couple of weeks back my wonderful friend Mirri asked me if I would model for her. She is a budding photographer and wanted to build up her portfolio some more, so of course I said yes. These are the two finished images which Mirri took, if you look carefully you can see my hands and lips blended in to create a layered effect.

I really love these pictures and think they are so fun and sweet. The main focus was on my hair which has grown into such an animal these days, I love it though as have spent the last three years growing it out from a pixie crop.

A-B+B+

T-shirt - Topshop
Skirt - River Island
Belt - Primark
Socks - River Island
Heeled Brogues - Topshop
Rings - Forever 21
Earrings - Accessorize

The figures in this title are what I got for my final major project at University (http://www.thebeautyandthebeat.co.uk). As you can imagine I am so incredibly pleased that all my hard work has totally paid off. These marks mean I should *fingers crossed* get a 2:1 for my degree, so pleased!

I bought this outfit for the mock job interview I have to do at Uni next week. We are supposed to look smart but as I put NYLON Features Intern as my dream role position down I thought looking a bit fun was important also, what do we think? I wanted to reflect some of my own personality as well in my outfit and not be completely smart.

I have a writing internship interview on Monday so going to have to do the real interview before the mock one, oh dear! Wish me luck for it, I am rather nervous at the moment.

New York: Days 5,6 & 7

The very last few days of New York went in such a blur I have had to look through all the hundreds of Facebook pictures I have been tagged in to remind myself just exactly what we go up to, apart from saying just how much we did not want to go home.

Day 5

Waking up bright and early we took the Staten Island ferry to have a good look at The Statue of Liberty and have a good old catch up on the way. I managed to massively embarrass myself on the subway down to the tip of Manhattan by giving myself away for free through the means of falling over at the tube stopped and lap dancing a very elderly old man. I've never done that on the London underground before so I guess it was my time, I laughed it off with some very rosie cheeks.

This was followed by my third ever Chinese meal. I know, I live under a rock when it comes to food but my nut allergy often holds me back in trying new things. However I had what I think was egg soup, actually very nice, some sort of chicken and vegetables. After this meal we headed back to the hotel before Rosie and I went down to Times Square to see the Harry Potter exhibition that was on. Full of lots of props and costumes we both fully geeked it out before heading to the Forest Gump themed restaurant for dinner. The meal was again followed by alcohol.

Day 6

Trying to find the diner we had been to previously for a fry up breakfast, we completely got lost and ended up having muffins and juice instead. I have an unreal sweet tooth so this was completely acceptable in my eyes. As way my purchasing of additional cupcake at a cute shop we found on the way to Parsons to have as a snack later on.

After doing some work at Parsons with their fashion design students we headed to central park for a small picnic before spending the afternoon packing and weeping to head home later the next day.

Day 6 was the day of our final dinner. We went to a gorgeous steak house which our lecturers have taken students too for the last four years and I can easily see why. A very reasonably price steak, pudding and two glasses of wine cost me $30, however when there is 16 of you this makes for a very large bill.

We'd all gotten very dressed up for the dinner, heels, fake eye lashes and all so decided we had to make the most of our last night in New York with yes, more alcohol and dancing. Rosie and myself learnt a new type of Latina dancing from a hilarious guy called Christian and we monopolised the juke box and pool table once again at the infamous Snafu. We also had to get this picture outside of our YMCA hostel, as you do.

Day 7

Oh the saddest day of all! Determined to pack in as much culture as possible, we hit up both The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Modern Art too. At The Met we saw the most amazing Alexander McQueen exhibition Savage Beauty. Featuring some of his most prolific designs, including some of my favourite pieces, it was a real pleasure to see. No photography was allowed but here are some super sneaky snaps.

After this we headed to MoMA for some Andy Warhol goodness before a quick New York street vendor hot dog and catching the plane back home.

I had an amazing time which was made even better by the classmates who were to provide the giggles and make everything. This was the second time I have been to New York and it was even more magical than I remember. My dream of moving to Williamsburg and working in Manhattan, the ultimate goal being at NYLON, is something that just has to happen.
