Floral Garland - DIY
White Lace Dress - H&M
Hamsa Hand Necklace - DIY
Cross Hand Chain - Topshop

It has been a busy old weekend for me in one way and another. I went up to London on Friday to see The Horrors at Brixton Academy and it was such an amazing show. I had myself a good old weep to Still Life, it takes quite a lot to make me cry but that was a real moment for me; the lyrics of that song really resonate with my current situation. I was also interviewed afterwards on video which is pretty trolol, if you want to see it you can stalk my Twitter ha.

I also wrote up three album reviews this weekend and got myself a bit of a tan. I went for a countryside bike ride with my parents last night which was good until I got attacked by a goose and my mum fell off her bike. We are both ok, don't fret!

About the outfit, I bought this dress from H&M in New York last year and think it will be a favourite forever. I have about 5 or 6 white dresses like this with lace, collars, floaty sleeves etc. I think it is a bit of an addiction! I made the headband myself and was wondering if anybody would be interested in buying them for around the £6-8 mark if I made some more? The necklace I also sort of made myself from a spare chain and a pendent I bought in San Diego on our road trip last month. I would really like a Hamsa hand tattoo in between my shoulder blades but am currently unbelievably broke.

I know I am a bit late to the party with this one but I recently fell in love with Niki and the Dove. Their a bit like Florence and the Machine but a bit edgier and darker.

West Coast Road Trip 2012: San Diego

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Arriving in San Diego we expected to be greeted with yet more sunshine after enjoying lots of it while in LA, especially what with the city being just over 10 miles from the border of Mexico! Sadly though the lady on the desk at our hostel confirmed what we suspected, that the weekends forecast for San Diego was overcast, and that is usually sunshine all year round. Despite this we found ourselves at a local brewery drinking local beverages before heading to a club just down the road.

Hungover once again we headed to a little Mexican joint called Pokez which had been recommended to us by a tattoo artist we met on our trip to Prague who was actually from San Diego. The food was absolutely delicious and I was a little bit over excited about the idea of eating actual Mexican fajitas, and not something Old El Paso whipped up.

To walk off the insane amount of food we had devoured the three of us drove to the north of San Diego and went for a walk down Ocean Beach. I was told to visit as it is one of the last true hippy beaches left on the west coast and I was not disappointed. While it was still overcast I really enjoyed nattering with my girls while feeling sand in between my toes, and it was still warm enough for another crazy coloured ice cream! We found a few great little shops too, I bought a Hansa hand pendent for a necklace and a Guatemalan worry doll.

Our last evening in San Diego came round far too quickly. While we only spent two days there it is definitely a city I would love to check out again and get a real feel for. It was rather similar to New York in some ways and London in others. I loved how it seemed to have a massive alternative scene even right over to the massive groups of bikers we saw and loads of amazing vintage cars. Saima got her second tattoo of the trip that evening which is an absolutely beautiful Sailor Jerry piece on her forearm. We topped up our hunger levels with some Thai food before a good nights kip to see us right for our 8 hour drive to Vegas the next morning.

What Is In My Bag?

Sephora Foundation
Comb and Eyeliner
Accessorize Purse
Cath Kidston Camera Case
Inhaler
Panasonic Earphones
Mini Diana and Flash
Cath Kidston Mirror
Cath Kidston Passport Holder
Topshop Oyster Card Holder
House Keys

I am not sure why but I always find this kind of post fascinating when other people do them. I think the contents of ones bag says a lot about a person. I guess mine would say that I am a little bit vain, love music, adore taking photographs and always need my ID because I look like a child and am always out somewhere or another. It might also say I am a bit of a Cath Kidston addict - I just cannot resist a cute print.

I usually carry around a black leather backpack which you can see in most of my outfit posts. I have had it for months now and am still in love with it!

P.S I also recently started a Facebook page for The Robyn Diaires, you can check it out here.

Head Chain - Rock N Rose
Crosses Necklace - Topshop
Foral Armband - Topshop
Crochet Waist Coat - Vintage
Grey Marl Vest - Topshop
Black Chiffon Skirt - c/o A|X Paris
Belt - Vintage
Sandals - Topshop

I received this skirt in the post this morning from the lovely A|X Paris and had to wear it straight away. I have been after a skirt like this for quite a while now as I think they are really flattering and great for the summer and winter! I am going to practically wear the same outfit next weekend for Field Day festival but with this top instead. I am so excited for my Birthday next week (Wednesday) and seeing the vast majority of my favourite people over next weekend to celebrate my turning 23, oh so old!

Just like everybody else I have been LOVING the sunshine and have even worked up a bit of a tan, well for somebody as pale as me this is a tan. Ho hum. I am just waiting for a phone call before I train it into London to hang out for the afternoon and go and see The Horrors tonight at Brixton Academy. I find it quite funny that since moving back home I have had more London nights out, and been to more gigs, then I did when I lived there. I am super excited for tonight, I know there are quite a few blogger people going so if you see me come say 'holla!'.

Enjoy your sunshiney weekends folks, and be sure to check out the amazing band Haim,

The Day Job: Music Journalist

The day job? Oh how I wish, music has always been my most favourite thing in the world and the only passion I've ever really had. As it says on the side bar there The Robyn Diaries is a style and music blog, because while I am still obsessed with fashion, trends and style nothing can beat my love of music. I've recently tried to adapt this idea by adding music videos to each outfit post.

I live for new album releases, discovering new bands and don't even get me started about the excitement that comes along with gigs and festival season. While I studied for a degree in Fashion Journalism and got myself a 2:1 I have since decided that music journalism is the route for me. I have recently set up on own portfolio website with my most recent and favourite interviews, reviews and work experience.

Looking at it I am so impressed by the bands I have worked with and interviewed, some of them such as Dry The River, Slow Club and Kid Harpoon aren't up on the website but I still cherish those moments. I have also worked with some amazing publications including Q Magazine,  Gigwise, Virgin.com and 1883 Magazine and continue to do so. It is my dream that one day I will write about music as my day job, reviewing new releases, discovering new acts, interviewing my idols and attending gigs and festivals all over the world. This is only the beginning and I just wanted to show you the other side of my life which you do not see very much of on The Robyn Diaries.

I also wanted to introduce you to three of the bands I am working on album reviews for at the moment. Each are as brilliant as the next and all have very exciting summers coming up.
